How we value and perceive ourselves. It’s based on our opinions and beliefs about ourselves, which can feel difficult to change. We might also think of this as self-confidence.
Signs of low self- esteem can look like:
❌Comparisons to others
❌Negative and hopeless thoughts
❌Self-doubt
❌Sensitivity to criticism
❌Lack of control
❌Fear of failure
❌Perfectionism
❌Poor boundaries or confidence
❌Negative self talk
❌Feeling needy or unworthy
❌Incompetence
❌Shame
❌Down playing or ignoring your positive qualities
How to overcome low self- esteem☀️
1. Recognize situations that affect self-esteem such as:
* a work or school presentation
* A crisis at work or home
* A challenge with a spouse, loved-one, co-worker, or other close contact
* A change in roles or life events, such as job loss os a child leaving home.
2. Become aware of thoughts and beliefs. This includes how you talk to and about yourself
3. Challenge negative thinking. Notice any patterns within your thinking that could lower your self-esteem
* All-or-nothing thinking
* Mental filtering
* Converting positives into negatives
* Jumping to negative conclusions
* Mistaking feelings for facts
* Negative self talk
4. Adjust your thoughts and beliefs
* Use hopeful statements
* Forgive yourself
* Avoid ‘should’ and ‘must’ statements
* Focus on the positive
* Consider what you’ve learned
* Relabel upsetting thoughts
* Encourage yourself

It’s so important to take care of not just our physical health, but our mental and emotional health too. I am in no means perfect with my self-esteem, but know that I am learning and growing each day and you can do it too. We have the power to change how we perceive ourselves and find greater value and purpose in our thoughts and our lives!
I highly recommend the book “Cleaning up your mental mess” by Dr. Caroline leaf. It will change the way you think and will actually help to restructure your brain!
